MARC Goes All Out for a Literate Georgia

Midtown Atlanta Rotary Club spearheaded an exciting and inspiring event focused on the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, Rotary Clubs of Georgia,
Rotary International and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Foundation.

Dolly Parton was the featured presenter on the importance of childhood literacy. She also sang her own song Nine to Five from the movie of the same name. Dolly was joined by a Rotary International board member, John Germ, who announced that they would be partnering with Dolly to eradicate
illiteracy throughout the USA, Canada and United Kingdom.

Closer to our Georgia interests, the three Georgia Rotary District Governors announced that there is now a similar joint venture between the Ferst Foundationfor Childhood Literacy and all Rotary Clubs located in Georgia. District Governors Ted Propes, Kenan Kern and Gary Moore pledged a consolidated
campaign to invest in Georgia’s future by introducing babies and children under five years of age to books and the magic of reading.

Committee For Childhood Literacy

Midtown Rotary Club has already taken a lead in this effort. It has attained 100% monetary contributions from the members to sponsor at least one year of reading for a child, which includes an age-specific book a month sent directly to the child. Under the direction of the Event Chairman, John Wyle, and his committee, MARC, working with the other organizations, planned and implemented the March 6th event held at the AmericasMart in Atlanta.

The Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy
One Share of Stock
The purchase of this share of stock is an investment in the education of young Georgians representing unique opportunity that will have a huge economic impact in the years to come. Children who learn to appreciate books at an early age become lifelong readers and better learners. They are more prepared when they enter school and are more likely to stay in school and earn their diploma. Consequentially, major employers will be better able to look within the State for their workers, rather than having to recruit from from out of state as is too often currently the case.

" Imagine the Possibilities" as this $36.00 investment provides new books and parent support materials to registered Georgia preschool children each month for a full year!
