GREETINGS FROM HAITI - BARBARA ROSE and DAVID ZIMMERMAN
|
| |
 |
April
17- April 26, 2012
Barbara
Rose, David Zimmerman and Richard Martin went Haiti to
represent Midtown
Atlanta Rotary Club and give support to the ongoing
HEART
Haiti project. They toured the site with Richard Martin,
designer and supervisor and areas surrouding around the
location. Meeting the children, people, volunteers and
the workers on the Container Project.
It is still a work in progress but there is lots to see
and report.

Shad took us through the city today.
Shad is the most amazing man. A mix of being smart, dedicated,
creative, energetic, thoughtful, resourceful, and personable.

It was a full day filled with both ups and downs.
The
children sang and danced for us. They had practiced and
did many songs in both French and English. That was the
best part of the day.
We
then walked to the tent city where many of "our"
children live, and have lived for over two years since the
earthquake. Unbelievable conditions but the mothers run
a neighborhood market to help support their families. This
is critical in a country where there is 80% unemployment.
We
piled in the truck and Carina drove us to the site for the
new Rotary Villages School and waited for the last container
to arrive. An hour later it appeared but as hot, dusty and
getting tired as we were, we cheered. Unfortunately, the
truck got mired in the gravel and it took 7 more hours for
them to finally get it unloaded and in place. We did not
wait the whole time but Shadrac did! More tomorrow. |

The
last container arrived today! |
|
Hurrah!
All four containers are delivered and put into place.
But it was not easy! The last one arrived at 2:00PM.
Everyone was excited. Then...... The truck got stuck
in the gravel and mud. Seven hours later, Shad had
worked with the driver and others, talked with Bob
Tippenour who talked to the driver and finally the
four containers were side by side and the welder
went to work. The school is really on its way now.

Hey All! Here was the welding finished today, it's been
really rainy so that's why these new cuts have taken more
days.
Carina
Tomorrow
we leave for home. Carina did say hi for you. Good night.
